why the hard knocks on TTS? -
Posted By: by
I've been reading these boards for awhile now and I have noticed some very, very bad stuff being said about TTS. I am just wondering why. I have worked for them now for a couple of months and have had nothing but a great experience. When I was talking with the recruiter before being hired she did saw that the did pretty much do an overall so that things would run more smoothly. Well I think they did a great job! I don't get nagged by IMs, at the beginning they would check in with me via IM to see how I was doing and if I needed help with anything. Linda has always been very prompt with any tech issues I might have (which were really just in the beginning with set-up). I think the pay is fair, not it's not the 14 cents per line I was making on my own personal accounts but then again they went to electronic med. records and no longer needed my services so I think my pay now is better than 0 cpl. Anyhow, I was just wondering why all the negativity. Have a great day!

Question from recruiter -
Posted By: mtqueenB
I sent my resume for an MT position and received an email asking me what specialities I had experience in. What is wrong with the people who run this business? With years of experience in hospital MT on my resume, I have to spell out to someone who is hiring MTs that that means acute care and every speciality is covered? Am I out of line to be annoyed by this?

Someone was asking about Inscribe Kentucky? sm -
Posted By: New Inscriber
I will be honest, I have only just started, but there are some things I can tell you.
I was informed today that they pay for headers and footers AND spaces, which I didn't ask up front because I have not been paid for these things in years, I thought no one did.
They set you up with a mentor to help you learn their ins and outs, so you have a go-to person, which I think is very helpful. I have, at this point, spoken to both the owners on the phone. They were helpful and pleasant.
While I didn't ask about how many accounts or how many MTs, I believe them to be a medium sized company. They are transparent about who their MTs are and there is a contact list for all of us that we all get. That was different too because most of the places I have worked they really discourage MTs talking between themselves.
There is no IM required which means they don't pester you with instant messages all day long.
This is all I know for now, but it is better than the nothing I was finding out about them.

Acute care experience is limited... -
Posted By: me
BUT I want to apply for a position in acute care. I have experience in everything except for operative reports and I am wondering if I should lie and tell the company I have this experience just to secure the position. I know I can do it because I am resourceful, but is it worth it? Should I be upfront about my experience or just wing it? Is acute care really that much harder than clinic? I pretty much aced the acute care exam, but wondering if my lack of experience will hurt me in the end. Hm...
Thanks for any advice you may have!

Execuscribe - I stand corrected -
Posted By: Rochester CMT
Thank you for pointing out actual fraud amount. I stand corrected. Article states $379,968. Kodak alleged near $500k. It was $1.36 million and $632,277 that was ordered to be paid by Linda and husband for damages stemming from the convicted fraud.
And again, you are correct in that it was not Execuscribe by that name in these particular convictions, but former company name of Emtex - whose assets were then acquired by Execuscribe at a deflated value, and then quickly transferred those Execuscribe stocks to her sons -- which generated a new action, and was declared null and void by the court in an an attempt to "hinger, delay or defraud" her creditors. So, yes, Execuscribe was named in this court action.
Maybe I'm off by a few years -- but I remember this business being Emtex, Executive Secretarial, and now Execuscribe. That's SEVERAL names. If I'm wrong on that - sorry. But my point is, one GOOD name should carry you through your whole professional life, don't you think?
The requirements to be met for performance are: -
Posted By: MQ packet states
1. Minimum of 100 lines per hour, or regular full time 150 lines per hour. Radiology is 8 reports per hour or 12 for full time.
2. Quality Assurance Plan standard (I believe that means QC percentage).
3. Work the schedule that has been agreed upon.
BUT under the compensation plan it says you are paid by the line. Again the line versus the hours. You see how they incorporate both and make it perfectly legit. I don't get how they can get away with it.

Neurosurg 14 cpl job -

OSI or Spheris -
Posted By: Husband just lost his job and I need to make a fam
My husband came home on Friday and said he was going to be laid off soon. I am still trying to accept this and what it means to our family budget. I got a job offer from Spheris and OSi to begin in their mentor programs. I am really lost and don't know which would be better for my family. Please everyone give me the heads up on both companies. I know Spheris offshores, but have plenty of work. OSI seems to be running out of work. Which program should I choose. Both recruiters tell me their companies have plenty of work. HELP

One software is Dictaphone Extext and Dictaphone Exspeech. The best part about it is that you can look up old reports by patient, doctor, etc. It has a good shortcut program that I imported from a previous job.
Another software is Escription (or Editscript). This is what a lot of companies are using now and it is great and better in my opinion than ExsSpeech.
About the people in the home office, yes they are very receptive and supportive from management to support to QA.
About QA, they are strict in terms of major mistakes but most of them do not nitpick on little things (some do though). They are strict in terms of account specifics and if you are familiar with that you will do okay. If you don't follow it they will let you know. It took me about a week to get off QA but I don't think that is set in stone. Some people get off earlier and some stay on QA longer.
We don't have a limit to the number of reports we can type the first day. That is one reason I like Transtech so much. My previous jobs limited me to a certain number which really can hurt the pocketbuck. Not so with Transtech.
I don't think that many companies actually pay you for a holiday if you are off but we have PTO that we use. The thing with Transtech is that they pay you time and a half if you work on a holiday and it doesn't matter if you are not scheduled to work. They said if you are willing to work on a holiday then you deserve the extra pay. At my previous job we only got the bonus if it was a scheduled workday.
I would average 1200 to 1400 lines a day with traditional typing and about 2500 with speech but I am still getting used to speech so think that will go up. Also they have a tier system where the more lines you get the more you get paid per line.
The benefits are very affordable. We have Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia.
They have some Monday-Friday jobs with weekend rotation. It may depend on the account. I work Tuesday-Saturday because I asked for it.
Yes you can work extra even if you are not scheduled but you would need to check to make sure there are plenty of jobs left for the MT's that are scheduled.
You can get backup accounts if you run out of work. Not a problem.
Transtech is the best company I have worked for. They don't require you to check in with IM and they leave you alone to do your work.
I hope I have answered your questions.

I spent two weeks jerking around with eTransPlus and they finally sent me out equipment. They had promised me all operative reports. That was not the case at all. When I questioned them they said they could not offer me all operative reports. I was disgusted. The pay was barely okay and they don't stick by their words unfortunately. I am very sad today.
Message from MDI-MD Liaisons -
Posted By: Carlotta from MDI
“To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children...to leave the world a better place...to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.”
---Ralph Waldo Emerson
This is the credo to which the owner of MDI-MD adheres. The success of every MT, however they measure it, is important, great or small. As a company we value everybody’s contribution and respect the work that everyone does. That being said, our success is through open communication, flexibility, integrity, and commitment to excellence.
I am coming to this chat board today on behalf of MDI’s account liaisons and management team to address some comments that were made on this board over the past few days with regard to MDI-MD and it’s management structure.
A team is only successful if everyone keeps moving in the same direction together. It is working together as a team, the MTs, QA department, operations, and client support services, that has made MDI-MD a success in a rapidly changing industry. As our leader, Dorothy carries heavily the weight on her shoulders of the 300 families who depend on MDI for financial support. This overwhelming sense of responsibility for the welfare of MDI’s employees and MTs is what pushes her forward every day…servicing our clients to ensure their satisfaction, as well as responding to hundreds of emails and phone calls daily. Indeed, she is more than willing to give her cell phone number to both clients and MTs…many of whom do not hesitate to call her at all hours of the day or night.
As account liaisons, we work closely with Dorothy and each other on a daily basis to maintain the balance of MT resources and backlogs. Our goal is to always maintain our accounts within TAT while ensuring that our MTs have enough work. Traditionally, the holidays are a slow period for the industry; MDI was fortunate over the past 3 or 4 years to have not experienced this annual slow down. This is probably the reason why some may be alarmed this year that our backlogs have been lighter over the past few weeks. You only have to go back a few weeks, though, to remember the HOURS of backlog on all our accounts. We have several major accounts expecting JCAHO visits over the next few weeks and months, so it is imperative that we maintain this level of TAT.
Flexibility is one of the best things about being an acute care or clinic MT with MDI…we each choose our line commitment and the days that we will be working. It is then completely up to us what hours we choose to work in order to complete our commitment. If we have meetings or appointments on any given day/evening, we can choose to work around those hours. If we have trouble sleeping, we can choose to get up and work for a while until we again become sleepy. This flexibility, though, must work both ways. We have a responsibility to our accounts to provide stat coverage 24/7…including weekends and holidays. We have a responsibility to our clients to keep the backlogs within TAT at all times…day/night, 365 days a year. It is with this in mind that we must all remember that flexibility is a 2-way street, even though most of the year the flexibility is in the MT’s favor.
Addressing any and all concerns is important to all of us at MDI. However, if concerns are not voiced to your account liaison and/or to Dorothy, then we cannot possibly work to resolve any issues. If your account experiences a temporary slow-down, we ask for your flexibility…if the problem is persistent, we typically have many accounts that could use extra MTs. If you have voiced your concern about lack of work and not been assigned to a secondary account, there could be one of several reasons for this…level of commitment, breadth of experience for additional accounts, account accessibility issues (Lanier versus DVI/C-phone versus WAV), requirement for DQA on a new account, to name a few. While it may seem an easy answer to pick up a new account, the training and learning curve may outweigh waiting a few days for the work on your primary account to pick back up. If you are unable to be flexible with your work hours, then notifying your liaison that you may not meet your commitment on any specific day due to lack of work is all that we ask. There is always the option of playing “Let’s Make a Deal” and asking to switch days off.
Difficult times face our industry and challenges are mounting. We continue to look for new opportunities while trying to maintain our current obligation, but this balance is never easy. Because of our commitment to excellence we are always looking for high-caliber quality MTs to join the MDI family. While we receive hundreds of resumes, fewer than 50% are considered potential candidates, and of that number only about 10% are offered a position and perhaps only 7-8% of those are successful at completing our intense 2-week directed QA training period and becoming MDI MTs.
MDI’s commitment to MT satisfaction is equally important to all of us. This is why each account has a liaison who is available to every MT via email or phone call. It is important to us to hear from you if you are having a problem of any sort, be it transcription-related or technical. While we’re not as savvy about computers as our tech support team is, we will do our best to assist you with any basic computer or BayScribe question, and if we are unable to do so we will refer your problem to our tech support team.
We recently unveiled our new discussion forum/chat board at www.mditrans.net. As this forum continues to grow you will be able to discuss with other MDI MTs account-specific or platform issues, as well as any other topics you choose to discuss. We are formulating a weekly live-online forum where Dorothy, as well as the liaisons, will be available to answer any questions/concerns/issues during a specific time frame. We have resumed publication of our newsletter in an electronic format, which is also available on-line at www.mditrans.net, and invite input from all of MDI’s MTs and employees.
MDI-MD is home to many MTs, some for over 20 years, and I personally believe that it may be the last company that most of us will ever work for. We have aligned ourselves with a quality company in MDI-MD. We have a bright future to look forward to with new accounts, improved communication and technology, which will serve to make our jobs more satisfying.
We look forward to another new year working together with the MDI family.

Carlotta, on behalf of MDI's liaisons and management team
